The Shire of Chittering is seeking community feedback on a potential Bridle Trail Network to be installed in Lower Chittering (Maryville Downs and Wandena Estate). This has been proposed in response to community requests for the Shire to explore options for a safe place for horse owners to walk and ride their horses. Please view the plans to the right of this page, which indicate the locations of the proposed trails.
The Shire is investigating the use of strategic firebreaks for horse walking and riding for the following reasons:
- Strategic firebreaks are in the Shire’s ownership and do not require passage over any easements or private property;
- Strategic firebreaks are existing and do not require the construction of any additional trails, therefore requiring minimal resources and time to make them operational as trails; and
- Strategic firebreaks are away from roads, and are safer than roads or road shoulders for walking and riding horses.
Only authorized vehicles, such as emergency service vehicles, would be permitted to use the strategic firebreaks; with no motorbikes, quadbikes or private vehicles permitted.
If community feedback is positive, the Shire will continue the investigation including looking at options for float parking, appropriate gates, and signage.
Please complete the following short 2-minute survey to provide your feedback.
