On Tuesday, April 25, the Shire of Chittering hosted the annual Chittering Community ANZAC Day Service at the Bindoon War Memorial.

After three years of the ANZAC Day service being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an exceptional attendance of residents at this year’s event, who all came to remember those who have served their country, including the Hon. Melissa Price MP and the Hon. Martin Aldridge MLC

In the absence of Mark Kay, who was in Canberra for the National ANZAC Day Service, Corporal Farrah Goodier undertook the role of the MC for the Service.  With ties to the local community her address personally highlighted the importance of remembering and recognising those who serve their country.

Dignitaries, Service representatives, community organisations, and members of the public were invited to lay wreaths at the MemorialAfter the service there was a flyover thanks to RAAF Pearce and attendees were invited to a morning tea, prepared by the Chittering-Bindoon CWA, at the Chinkabee Complex.

Each year the Chittering Community ANZAC Day service is a chance for locals, and visitors, to pause, remember and recognise those who have sacrificed to protect our way of life, and to connect with others in our community.

As the service continues to grow, it is great to see the number of children and younger adults in attendance, laying wreaths in memory of family and friends who served our community and our country, alongside our New Zealand Brothers in Arms.

The Shire of Chittering would like to thank everyone who attended and assisted with the ANZAC Day Service, including BEAT, Chittering Scout Group, Chittering Bindoon CWA, John Farrell, and Abbott John Herbert from the New Norcia Benedictine Community, without whom the event would not have been such a success.
